Description
The White House is a house that was formerly known as The Cock Public House. It dates from the late 17th century and was renovated in the late 20th century. The building is timber-framed, with a plastered rendered exterior and a tiled, hipped roof featuring a ridge stack. It has a lobby entry plan and stands two storeys tall. The first floor has four modern casement windows that may be in the original openings, while the ground floor features three similar windows on either side of the doorway. The house has been extended at the rear.
Inside, there are back-to-back inglenook hearths, a cellar, and a dairy located at the south end. Some timber-framing has been inserted, but the original long straight downward wall bracing remains. The first floor retains original partition walls, including a corridor with an internal leaded light casement that has original iron fittings, although the glass is modern.
