Description

No. 3 Ely Place is a terrace house built around 1797, forming part of the planned circus of the Castle Estate designed and constructed by Joseph Medworth, who lived from 1752 to 1827. The house is made of local brown brick and features a slate roof with a side stack. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and has three bays. The stone coping on the parapet and a stone cill band add to its architectural detail. The windows are all twelve-paned recessed hung sashes. To the right, there is a wooden doorcase with fluted pilasters and a broken pediment, which frames a six-panelled door topped by a plain round-headed fanlight. The property has been recently renovated and altered, and it is included for its group value.
