Description

This is a group of three shops and offices, built as part of the Castle Estate Development between 1793 and 1816. They form a section of the Union Place terrace on Market Street, Wisbech. The buildings are constructed of local brown brick, with number 9 finished with roughcast render. They are three storeys high with a basement, and have a shallow parapet with stone coping. There are six blind windows on the first and second floors, along with sash and casement windows, some of which retain original glazing bars. All windows are within original cambered arches of gauged red brick, with stone sills. The ground floor has three windows in similar openings, although the windows in numbers 8 and 9 have been replaced. There are three entrances framed by round-headed arches constructed of gauged red brick, each with a simple fanlight. Number 10 has a six-panelled door.

Internally, number 8 retains some original four-panelled doors, while number 9 has an original six-panelled door and a plain, closed-string staircase. Number 10 features original windowcases, a plain, closed-string staircase, and alcove cupboards.
