Description

23 High Street is an early 18th-century shop that was refronted in the 19th century using red brick. The building is four storeys high with a basement, and has two bays. It has slate roofs, topped with a large square stack. The exterior is faced in local brown brick, with a parapet and stone coping. The upper floors contain recessed four-paned sash windows on the third floor, twelve-paned sash windows on the second floor, and nine-paned windows at ground floor, all set within cambered brick arches. The shop windows were altered in the mid-19th century. The interior retains its original butcher's shop layout.
