Description

Chapel Farmhouse is a house located on the site of the former monastic Grange belonging to Chicksands Priory. It likely has an earlier core but is primarily a late 18th-century building, as indicated by an inscribed brick that reads "I.H. (or 1.S.?) 1786", with mid-19th-century alterations and extensions. The structure is made of red brick, featuring vitrified headers in the earlier part, and has slate roofs, with the rear block being hipped.

The principal block is designed with a two-room plan and consists of two storeys and attics. There is a two-storeyed block and single-storeyed outbuildings added to the rear. On the west elevation, the right-hand part is original while the left-hand part is a 19th-century addition. The earlier section has a brick band at the first-floor level. Both the ground and first floors feature two 19th-century tripartite sash windows with glazing bars, although the left-hand ground floor window is later and larger. The first floor includes a blind window in the centre, which is narrower than the other openings. The attic has two box dormers.

Below the blind window, there is a part-glazed door with a rectangular fanlight, situated within a 19th-century brick porch. The porch has a round-headed arch and decorative pierced bargeboards. The gable ends are adorned with red brick stacks, one being external and the other integral. A dentil cornice can be found at the eaves.
