Description

Thurleigh War Memorial is a Grade II listed structure featuring a roughly hewn granite wheel cross. At the center of the cross and down the shaft is a relief of the Sword of Sacrifice. The memorial stands on a square plinth, which has black painted lead lettering on the front face that reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF / THE MEN OF THURLEIGH / WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR. 1914 – 1918 / (NAMES)." At the base of the memorial is an inclined marble shield with the inscription: "THEY DIED FOR ME, / CHRIST DIED FOR ALL. / R.I.P." On one side face, the dates "1939 – 1945 / (NAME)" are inscribed. The memorial is situated on a two-stepped base within a paved area, with a path leading up to it.
