Description
This is a house located at 27 Severn Side South, dating from the early 17th century, with mid-19th century and some mid-20th century alterations. It features a timber-frame structure with rendered infill on a stuccoed brick base and a slate roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, which is illuminated by casement windows in the two gables that are adorned with cusped and pierced bargeboards.
On the first floor, there are three windows, which are 4-light 19th century casements with plank weatherings and sills supported by 17th century scroll brackets. The ground floor has two windows, featuring glazing bar sashes with a segmental head to the upper sash and two-leaf external wooden shutters. The central entrance boasts a Tudor arch with a label and a recessed six-panel door, of which the upper four panels are glazed. There is also an entrance to a passage at the right corner, which has a moulded wooden architrave and a 17th century boarded door.
The framing includes some small portions that were replaced in the 19th century and some that were removed on the ground floor. The walls are close-studded with a mid-rail, and the wall-plate is slightly jettied with a moulded soffit.
