Description
The Thurston Hotel is a house that has been converted into a hotel. It was built in 1775 and has undergone mid-19th century and some late 20th century alterations. The building is made of brick and features a hipped tile roof. It stands three storeys high on a cellar and has five windows. The central range of windows is recessed, while the two sides have brick parapets topped with stone pediments. The windows are arranged in a pattern of two, one, and two, and consist of plate glass sashes. The central window has a French casement that opens onto a 20th-century wrought iron balcony, all featuring rubbed brick heads. On the ground floor, the central entrance boasts a stone pedimented doorcase with engaged Doric columns, and the door itself has two leaves, each with two raised and fielded panels. Inside, there is an open well staircase with a moulded ramped handrail, turned balusters, and an open string.
