Description
Toft Monks Hall is a house dating from the early 17th century and later. It features a timber frame and brick construction, rendered and color-washed on a tarred brick plinth. The roof is steeply pitched with hipped ends and covered in smut pantiles. The building has two storeys, attics, and a basement.
The north facade is four windows wide, with sashes that have glazing bars and architraves, and 2-light casements in the basement. There is an off-centre doorway to the east, opposite the stack, which features a 6-panel door, fluted pilasters, and an entablature with corner paterae. The facade also includes two attic dormers with 2-light casements.
On the south elevation, there are two 2-light casements and an entrance doorway at the basement level, along with one sash with glazing bars and two cross casements at ground floor level. Stone steps lead up to a central doorway with a 6-panel door, a moulded architrave, and a canopy. At first floor level, there are two cross casements and a 20th-century replacement sash with a top-hung light and glazing bars, along with a central attic dormer featuring a 2-light casement.
Inside, the framing includes jowled posts, which have expanded tops that are unusually in the plane of the wall. There are also two fireplaces with quadrant-moulded elliptical brick arches.
