Description
This is a 17th-century barn located immediately west of The Elms on Elms Road in Toft Monks. The barn is constructed of red brick, which is partly colourwashed, and features a steeply pitched pantiled roof with stepped gables on the north and south sides. The east wall has a central double door opening that is flanked by pilaster-buttresses. There is a porch on the west side with a weatherboarded gable. The barn includes closely-set vent loops in the east, west, and south walls. It is connected to the house by a castellated red brick garden wall to the south. Inside, the roof has two tiers of butt purlins, with wind braces supporting the upper purlin. The tie beams have queen struts that support the rafters, and there are arch braces onto the wall posts in the two northern bays.
