Description
This is a dovecote located about 15 yards east of Conderton Chase, likely built in the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a stone tiled roof that is laid in diminishing courses, complete with gable-end parapets. The dovecote has a rectangular plan and is a single level structure. There are rectangular lights with deep splays in both gable ends, and the main entrance is situated in the west gable end. Stone alighting ledges project from the upper corners. At the center of the roof ridge, there is a large painted square timber lantern that has two tiers of alighting ledges and entry holes. This lantern is topped with a pyramidal stone tiled roof, a ball finial, and a large weathervane. The interior of the dovecote retains all its nesting boxes, which number approximately 500.
