Description

CONDERTON CP - SO 93 NE SO 9637 - 9737 3/60 Dovecote about 15 yards 10/60 east of Conderton Chase - II

Dovecote. Probably early to mid-C18. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and stone tiled roof laid in diminishing courses with gable-end parapets. Rectangular plan. Single level. Rectangular light with deep splay in both gable ends. Main entrance in west gable end. Stone alight- ing ledges project from upper corners. Large painted square timber lantern at centre of roof ridge with two tiers of alighting ledges and entry holes; it has a pyramidal stone tiled roof with a ball finial and large weathervane. Interior retains all its nesting boxes, (approximately 500).
