Description
This is a house built in the 17th century, altered and extended around 1909, likely by Ernest Newton for Richard Biddulph Martin. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a thatched roof that is hipped at the north end, with a brick stack located at the north end of the ridge. The house has two-and-a-half bays aligned north to south, with a chimney situated at the north end of the central bay. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.
On the west front elevation, the ground floor has three two-light windows, one in each bay. The northernmost window has a cambered head, and there is a central eyebrow dormer with a two-light window above. Between the central and southernmost ground floor windows, there is a blocked opening. The north-west corner of the house is angled and faced with ashlar stone. The main entrance is located in this angle and features a lean-to canopy supported by a shaped bracket, along with a 20th-century door that has a cambered head. The south gable end has an attic light, and the original purlin ends are visible.
