Description
Cross Cottages is a farmhouse that has been divided into two dwellings, dated 1675, with early and mid-20th century alterations. It is constructed from coursed dressed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a plain tiled roof with gable-end parapets and two ashlar ridge stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a chamfered plinth and five bays.
The ground floor openings are topped with hood-moulds that have returns. The windows throughout the building are all leaded casements. On the ground floor, there is a 2-light and a 3-light chamfered-mullioned window in the first and second bays, respectively; the remaining two windows feature large 3-light casements. On the first floor, there are three 2-light and three 3-light casements, with an additional window inserted between the fourth and fifth bays.
The central entrance has a chamfered square-headed surround and a 20th-century door, with a square datestone above inscribed "IA/1675" beneath its hood-mould. The gable ends are adorned with 2-light chamfered mullioned attic windows that have drip courses above.
