Description

Young's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with painted brick infill set on a sandstone rubble base, topped with a plain tiled roof and paired star-shaped ridge stacks. There is also an external 19th-century brick stack on the right side elevation. The building has a hall and cross-wing type plan, consisting of two framed bays, with a lobby entrance; it is single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

The framing consists of three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners, collar-and-tie-beam trusses featuring queen struts and V-struts in the apex. On the front elevation, the hall section has a ground floor three-light casement window and a gabled dormer with bargeboards, a finial, and a two-light casement window. There is a planked and battened door at the right end, while the cross-wing gable end has a ground floor two-light casement and a three-light attic window. The main entrance is now located in the left gable end, featuring a gabled, timber-framed porch with a finial, chamfered posts, and a planked and battened door with a moulded architrave. Inside, the main beams are stop-chamfered. There are also single storey additions at the rear.
