Description
Hadley Mill is a former corn mill dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick on a high dressed sandstone plinth and features a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a dentilled eaves cornice and three blue brick diaper panels at the center of the front elevation. There are two openings on the lower floor with cambered heads and three small square openings above bin level. An attic light is located in the right gable end. The left gable end has a single-storey wing that also features a dentilled eaves cornice and large round-arched openings on all elevations, where the water wheel is situated.
Inside, the mill retains its machinery and equipment, including an undershot water wheel that drives three pairs of millstones, all made of French burr. The runner on the westernmost pair has an iron eye ring with the raised inscription, "J PICKIN, MILLSTONE BUILDER, 27 COLESHILL STREET, BIRMINGHAM." Additionally, there is a single-storey pigsty range adjoining the wheelhouse wing.
