Description

This is a house, dating from the 17th century and altered in the early 20th century. It is constructed from limestone rubble with a stone slate roof. The house is two storeys high with an attic. The south gable wall, which faces the street, has windows with rebated and chamfered mullions—that is, window frames where the mullions are set back and edges are softened—and decorative hoods. There are four windows on the ground floor, three on the first floor, and two in the attic. The lights (individual panes) of the attic window have elliptical, arched tops. The east wall has a three-light window on the ground floor, and first-floor windows set partly within gable dormers; these windows have three and two lights respectively. The right-hand first-floor window appears to be from the 20th century. The 20th-century doorway, located on the right-hand side, has a chamfered surround and a canted head. To its right, a projecting wing stands forward with timber casement windows dating from the early 20th century; the ground-floor window has a relieving arch, and the first-floor window is set within a dormer. The west wall of the main part of the house has a casement window towards the left, a two-light window on each floor to its right, and a further three-light mullioned window to the right again, beyond a chimney stack. This chimney stack has two diagonal brick caps. Further chimneys sit behind the ridge towards the rear of the main range, and on the north wall of the projecting wing.
