Description
62 High Street is a shop dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys with an attic and is divided into four bays. A moulded cornice runs along the eaves. The windows consist of two lights with flat-faced mullions that have edge-roll mouldings, and they are fitted with 20th-century metal casements and leaded glazing. The outer bays on the ground floor display mid-20th-century bowed shop fronts set on stone bases. There are four dormer windows in the attic. The doorway in the third bay has a moulded surround. The gables are coped, and there is a chimney on the left side with a weathered offset and cyma cornice. The west wall features a rebated and chamfered mullioned window of late 17th-century style, which lights a rear wing. A continuous plinth indicates that the wing may have been built at the same time as the front gable, suggesting the window could be a re-used feature. The interior was not fully accessible during the survey in November 1986, but some ceiling beams were exposed on the ground floor.
