Description

The former school located to the east of Tudor House was built in 1856 and enlarged in 1869. It is constructed from limestone ashlar with roofs made of tile and stone slate, and it stands two storeys tall. On the right side of the building, there are three chamfered trefoiled lights on the ground floor, while the first floor features two similar lights with a round opening above, partly set within a gable. An octagonal turret, which is corbelled out at the first floor level, is located to the left and has an open timber bellcote topped with a steep roof and weathervane. A clock, dated "1887," projects forward on cast iron brackets to the right. Each side of this section of the building has a coping; the left side includes a chimney, while the right side has a bellcote. Set back on the left is a gable that features four trefoiled lights above a mid-20th century bus shelter and a trefoiled opening. To the right of this gable is a porch with a pointed doorway and an inscription that reads: St Michael's Church School ..... AD The gables are coped, with the left-hand one adorned with a cross finial. Inside, the left-hand (east) first floor room showcases exposed roll-moulded trusses with arch-braced collars and a ceiling at collar level, indicating that the floor was likely inserted into the former schoolroom.
