Description
Headingley Parish Hall, originally a school, was built in 1844 with likely alterations made in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and features a stone slate roof with kneelers and gable copings. It is a single-storey structure with an irregular plan consisting of five by two bays, centered around a hall with classrooms that are illuminated by gabled mullion and transom windows. The entrances are located on the south side, with one on the right accessed by a short flight of steps and railing, and another on the left in a possibly added angled and gabled bay. The right side facing St Michael's Lane includes a four-centred arched window with Perpendicular tracery. At the main ridge, there is a small ventilation turret or bell tower adorned with cusped braces and topped with a pyramid roof. The interior has not been inspected. This building is an example of the type of church school that benefited from the 50% Treasury Grant initiated in 1833.
