Description
The war memorial located on St Michael's Road in Headingley was built around 1920 and designed by Sidney Kitson. It is made of white Portland stone and features bronze decorative motifs. The memorial has a stepped base and a square two-stage plinth that includes inscriptions, topped by an obelisk with a cross on the south side. The inscription on the west side reads, "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE," while the north side commemorates "THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF HEADINGLEY WHO FELL IN THE WAR 1914." Each side of the memorial has plaques listing the names of the fallen. The lower plinth is adorned with attached bronze wreaths and plaques, though some are missing. Recently, railings have been added to the steps.
