Description
The Steps is a house, now divided into three separate homes, dating from the late 16th century. It was extended in the late 17th century and has undergone some alterations in the mid-20th century. The building features a timber frame with rendered and painted brick infill resting on a lias stone plinth, topped with a concrete tile roof. It is one storey high with attics, which are illuminated by three gabled dormers and a three-light casement window in the gable of the jettied cross-wing on the right side. The entrance, located to the left of the cross-wing, has a ledged and boarded door leading to a passageway. The framing of the cross-wing is close-studded at the ground floor, with two square panels high and straight angle braces supporting the first floor; the roof has been reconstructed. The remaining framing consists of three square panels high with straight tension braces.
