Description

HIMBLETON CP SALEWAY SO 95 NW 6/169 Dovecote about 25 yards west of Saleway Farmhouse GV II

Dovecote. c1600 with mid-C20 alterations. Timber-framed with rendered infill on lias limestone rubble base; plain tiled roof. Square plan; two levels. Framing: three panels from sill, to wall-plate; long straight brace in lower corner of east elevation, short swept brace in left panel of upper row of west elevation; collar and tie-beam trusses with two struts to collar. C20 windows inserted in lower level; 6-light window in north elevation and 4-light window in east elevation; central panel of north roof truss has lias limestone infill and five entry holes with alighting ledges; entrance in south elevation. Interior: floor inserted, but nesting boxes are said to survive in the upper level.
