Description
Goosehill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1600, with later alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber-framed with brick infill and replacement walling, featuring weatherboarding at the east gable end and a shingled roof. It consists of two framed bays aligned east to west, with an external sandstone chimney and a brick stack at the east gable end, which are now enclosed within 19th and 20th-century additions. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with irregular framing that includes between two and four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, large swept braces in the lower corners, and collar and tie-beam trusses with raking struts.
On the south front elevation, the 19th-century replacement walling of the east bay has a three-light casement window with a cambered head on the ground floor and a two-light casement window on the first floor. A 20th-century wing projects from the west bay, and the main entrance is located in a single-storey addition at the east gabled end.
Inside, the roof features an intermediate collar and tie-beam truss with raking struts and one tier of purlins. The wall-frame is retained between the south-west addition and includes a large swept brace. There is a possible shaped doorhead in the rear wall-frame to the east, a large sandstone fireplace in the east bay, and a winder staircase in the west bay. The house retains much of its original framing and some interesting features.
