Description

This is a derelict outbuilding located about 14 yards north-west of Court Farmhouse, likely dating from the 16th century. Originally part of a manor house, it was used as a cider house and is now in a ruinous condition. The structure features a mix of lias limestone rubble with sandstone dressings and coursed dressed sandstone. It has a square plan and an external chimney at the center of the west elevation. The walls still stand to the first floor level, with the south wall made of coursed sandstone and sandstone quoins at the north corners. There are entrances on the south and east elevations, with the east entrance retaining its timber lintel. The north elevation has a 3-light chamfered stone-mullioned window, along with the remains of two mullioned windows on either side of the west chimney. Inside, there is a large chamfered sandstone fireplace in the west wall, and remnants of posts and an arch-braced tie-beam from a former screen that divided the space along a west/east axis. This notable medieval structure is situated on a moated site that once surrounded the original manor house, with a barn belonging to the manor located to the south of the moat.
