Description
Nos. 49, 51A, 51B, and 53 (The Pig and Drum) are a group of three houses, now a shop, restaurant, and pub with flats above, dating to the early 19th century. The building was constructed in two phases and has undergone later alterations, including the addition of shop fronts in the late 19th century and in the 1980s.
The building is constructed of reddish-brown brick in Flemish bond, with two houses on the left being stuccoed. It has a plain tile roof, along with brick party-wall and end stacks which feature overhanging courses and decorative pots. The three-storey building has a 1:1:2 window arrangement on the first floor. The first floor has two single-pane sashes and two three-pane sashes, all set in elliptically-arched surrounds. The second floor has a single-pane sash, a six-pane Yorkshire sash, and two four-pane, eight-pane sashes. All windows are in near-flush frames with sills. A decorative dentil eaves band runs along the top of the building.
The shop fronts are varied; a Victorian-style shop front and door are located on the left, while the centre has a part-glazed door with overlight, a glazed shop front on a plinth with fascia, and a further entrance with a four-panelled door, blocked overlight, and open pediment. To the right, a panelled door with overlight and open pediment sits between plate-glass windows.
The interior has not been inspected.
