Description

The Elim Pentecostal Church dates from approximately 1840 to 1850, with later alterations. It is constructed of stucco over brickwork, with a concealed roof. The church is a single tall storey, comprising three bays. It features a chamfered plinth that rises to pilasters with horizontal rustication at each end. A continuous frieze and dentil cornice runs along the building, topped by a parapet with a centrally placed, stepped upshot. The main entrance consists of a step leading to round-arched double doors, which have four raised and fielded panels and are set in plain reveals with a tooled architrave, incorporating a sunk panel frieze and a cornice resting on corbel brackets. Each outer bay is defined by a tall 6/6 sash window with radial glazing bars in the head, set in plain reveals with a tooled architrave, a scrolled keystone and sills on decorative feet. The interior of the church was not inspected.
