Description
No. 6 Barbourne Road is a house that has been converted into a shop on the ground floor. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone later additions and alterations, including a 19th-century shop front and further changes made between 1976 and 1990. The building is constructed of painted brick and features a main roof covered with plain clay tiles, along with a rear dormer. The front dormers have lead flat roofs. There is a stack at the rear left with an oversailing detail and pots. The timber shopfront includes a single-depth, L-shaped plan with a hall and staircase located in the rear left wing. The building stands two stories high with an attic and has three first-floor windows that are 12/12 horned sashes, flush with brick sills and header courses above. The shopfront has been altered and features part fluted and part flush-beaded pilasters, console brackets, a cornice, a fascia, sliding plate glass windows, and an entrance on the right. There are two dormers with paired casements that have two panes each. At the rear, there is an entrance with a fluted timber doorcase topped by an open pediment and a six-panel door. The interior has not been inspected.
