Description

2 and 4 Barbourne Road is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates back to the 17th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. The building features a timber frame with rendered infill and painted brick, topped with a plain clay tile roof that includes tiled dormers. A large truncated brick stack is located at the center of the rear wall.

The front elevation, facing west, is made of brick and has dentilled eaves. It includes two gabled full-dormer windows that have paired casements with two lights each. To the left of each house, there is a canted multi-pane oriel window from the 19th or early 20th century, with a part-glazed door to the right of each window. Each door is adorned with a simple open pediment supported by console brackets.

On the right return elevation, the building displays square framing with brick infill, although the framing is missing from the left half. There are two-light paired casements located off-centre to the right in the attic gable, and a 20th-century shop window is positioned to the left on the ground floor. The rear elevation features square framing that is three panels high with rendered infill.

Inside, the building reveals exposed bridging beams and timber framing, although the roof structure has not been seen.
