Description
This barn, located about 50 metres south-east of Middle Battenhall Farmhouse, dates from the 17th century and has had additions and alterations in the mid-18th century and late 19th century. It features a timber frame set on a stone plinth, with partial brick infill and sections that are weatherboarded. There is a brick extension and a tiled roof. The barn consists of nine bays running east to west, with the seven western bays being from the 17th century and containing a central threshing floor. The two additional bays to the east were added in the 18th century, with the western of these also having a threshing floor. The east gable has a brick coped verge and an owl hole that is dressed in stone. The framing includes three square panels high, with some woven infill still visible. All roof trusses feature two queen struts to the collar and trenched purlins.
