Description

The Huntsman's House is a late 18th-century building, dating from around 1800, and is possibly designed by James Wyatt. The front of the house features a striking eyecatcher made of Bath stone ashlar, while the main structure is built of brick and topped with a low-pitched slate roof. The house has a gable-ended front and is flanked by two large archways, with the northern arch being blind and concealing an additional brick building behind it.

The central section of the house is pedimented and two stories high, adorned with a full entablature and a fluted frieze that is interrupted by a blank panel. The wall is designed as a recessed giant arch, which is moulded and features a console keystone along with paterae in the spandrels. A bullseye window is located on the first floor, above a tripartite sash window that is divided by wooden Ionic columns and has an entablature with paterae in the frieze at floor level. The brick section behind has a three-window range, complete with a stone modillion eaves cornice and sash windows that have gauged brick heads. The arches on either side are detailed with moulded imposts and arches, as well as moulded cornices and an upper balustrade. The northern side's arch is blind but includes a glazing bar sash window.
