Description
High Greenwood House is a house dating from the late 18th century, situated on Widdop Road in Heptonstall. The house is constructed of dressed stone with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and an attic. The front facade is symmetrical, with three bays, and features a plinth, a modillion eaves cornice, and coped gables with stacks. A doorway is accentuated by an architrave, a pulvinated frieze, and a triangular pediment. Above the doorway is a tall, rectangular window with coloured margin glazing. The front features tripartite sash windows on both floors, with altered glazing. The left-hand return wall incorporates a doorway with an architrave entablature, frieze, and cornice, and a simple sash window with a Venetian window to the attic above. The rear elevation has a seven-light, flat-faced mullion window, where the mullions are slightly recessed and have an inner chamfer, echoing the design on the first floor. A concave eaves cornice is present. A lean-to covers the rear doorway, featuring a chamfered surround. The right-hand return wall mirrors the front with tripartite windows on both floors. A further lean-to features a double-chamfered mullioned and transomed window of 17th-century character, featuring two over four lights; beneath it are a two-light and a three-light window to the cellar, with a cavetto mullion and surround which appears to be reused.
