Description

Boothroyd Farmhouse, formerly known as Dick Booth, is a house dated 1733 and initialled "H M" for Henry Mitchell. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof and has two storeys. The front features a two-cell layout that is double-depth with a rear entry. The windows are double chamfered mullioned types, although most mullions are missing, with king mullions still present. There is a former eight-light window that has been altered to include a 19th-century doorway with monolithic jambs, and a six-light window above it. Additionally, there is a six-light window and a four-light window above that has been changed to three lights. The right-hand return wall has quoins and features three-light windows in the rear room, with matching windows on the first floor. The cellar-basement includes a former four-light chamfered mullioned window. The gables are coped with kneelers and a stack. At the rear, there is a doorway with double tie-stone jambs that is blocked, located to the left of a former cross-window that lacks mullions, positioned at mezzanine level for stair lighting. Below this is a single light window for the cellar steps. The doorway has a segmental arched lintel with a date in relief and a cyma moulded surround. There is also a five-light double chamfered mullioned window that has been altered from a former four-light window.

Inside, the house features stop-chamfered spine beams. The rear kitchen includes a fireplace with a wide segmental arched lintel and a stop-chamfered surround. The original cellar has a double vault.
