Description
The Island Temple in Croome Park is a garden temple built around 1800, likely designed by James Wyatt. It is constructed from Bath stone ashlar and features decorative details in Coade stone. The temple has a square plan and is open to the south, topped with a hipped slate pyramid roof. The south front is adorned with two Corinthian columns and two square piers, along with a full entablature that includes a decorated frieze and a modillion cornice. The capitals of the columns are made of Portland stone. Inside, there are three long rectangular Coade stone reliefs depicting the Aldobrandini wedding in the center, with griffons and tripods on the side walls. Additionally, there are two circular plaques featuring Pyrygion shepherds.
