Description
The Temple Greenhouse in Croome Park is a lakeside temple built around 1760 by Robert Adam. This oblong building is constructed from Bath stone and features a central hexastyle portico with a richly carved pediment that displays a giant basket of flowers. The building has Roman Doric pilasters at the corners and an entablature surrounding it. Originally, there were glass screens between the columns, dating from around 1800, but these have now been removed. On each side of the building, there is a window with glazing bars, which were originally niches that housed statues of Ceres and Flora, with relief carved panels above them. The end gables are pedimented and have arched recesses. A design for the greenhouse is held in the Soane Museum and is dated 1760.
