Description

Dunstall Court is a stable court dating from approximately 1752, designed by Lancelot Brown for the 6th Earl of Coventry. Constructed of red brick with Bath stone dressings and slate roofs, the building is three-sided, open to the south. The symmetrical design incorporates central, pedimented archways on each side, constructed with ashlar stone-faced, rusticated piers, plain imposts and arches, and pediments. Two-storey ranges run between these arches, featuring a moulded eaves course and a stone band carried from the impost level of the arches. Ground floor recesses are arched with a stone band extending across and radiating upwards; above the band are bar windows. The brickwork is blank below the windows except for five openings on the north side, formerly a coach house and now glazed. First-floor windows have a glazing bar pattern with gauged brick heads. The north range has eleven bays, while the side ranges have ten bays, with the south end of one bay slightly projected. The outer facades use brickwork with moulded brick pediments and eaves cornices. The archways are taller than those on the inner facades. A clock is situated in the pediment of the west range.
