Description

Pound House is a 17th-century house, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. It is built with a timber frame and has painted brick and rendered infill, with some brick refacing. The roof is covered in plain tiles. The original design was a single bay running north-west to south-east, featuring a large external chimney with a detached stack at the south-east gable end. The house is single storey with an attic, and contains dormer windows. The timber framing is visible within the walls, with two and three panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate. The roof structure includes collar and tie-beam trusses, with two struts to the collar and a V-strut in the apex at the north-west gable end. The south-east truss was refaced and painted to resemble timber framing. The south elevation has a 2-light casement window, a small rectangular window, and one gabled dormer with a 2-light casement. Internally, the timber frame appears intact, and a winder staircase is located at the north-west end. A single-bay, single-storey addition has been built to enclose the external chimney, incorporating a lean-to extension to the south with a 3-light casement and a 4-panelled door, which now serves as the main entrance. Further lean-to additions are present at the north-west gable end and at the rear. The house is located to the west of the old village pound.
