Description

This is a timber-framed house, likely dating to the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The external appearance is a mix of painted brick, rendered infill, brick refacing, and replacement walling, all topped with a plain tiled roof. The three bays are arranged east to west, with a prominent chimney to the east of the central bay and a brick ridge stack. The house has two storeys. The timber frame is visible with three panels running from the girding beam to the wall plate. The east gable end features a collar and tie-beam truss with four struts below the collar and a V-strut in the apex. The west gable end has a queen post truss, with posts connected by a rail, a central strut beneath, and a V-strut in the apex. The north front has a three-light casement window on the ground floor, a two-light casement and a rectangular window above, a stable door to the right, and a 19th-century gabled timber porch with a brick base and leaded glass infill on either side, sheltering a 20th-century door. The interior was noted to contain a large fireplace and a cross-beamed ceiling in the central bay, though it hasn't been inspected. Lean-to additions are present at both gable ends and at the rear. The cottage is located to the southwest of the churchyard of St John the Baptist church.
