Description
This structure consists of a barn, shelter shed, stable, and hop kiln, which are located next to Common Wood Farmhouse. Built in the late 18th century, with some alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century, the buildings are constructed of brick and feature plain tiled roofs. The barn has a T-plan layout and is three bays long, oriented from northwest to southeast. It includes a central wagon bay with double doors that have cambered heads, as well as a dentilled eaves cornice and header ventilation courses.
The shelter shed is attached to the southeast gable end of the barn and also has three bays. The southwest elevation facing the farmyard features one door and two openings separated by a square pier. The stable wing, which is aligned from southwest to northeast, is connected to the northwest gable end of the barn. It has two levels and a dentilled eaves cornice, with two bays. The southeast elevation facing the farmyard includes a two-light upper level window and a door, both with cambered heads. The southwest gable end of the stable adjoins Common Wood Farmhouse, while the northeast end connects to the hop kiln, which is square in shape and topped with a pyramidal slate roof. Together, these buildings form a group that surrounds the north and east sides of the farmyard.
