Description
The building consists of a barn, stables, and a hop kiln, located to the west of Woodmanton Farmhouse. The barn dates from the early 18th century and features a timber frame on a rubble plinth, with weatherboarding and a plain tile roof that is hipped towards the stable range at the south. It has four bays, with a threshing floor located in the bay north of the center and a lean-to on the west side. The stables, which are at right angles to the barn and attached to the kitchen of Woodmanton Farmhouse, were built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of rubble with a plain tile roof and have two storeys, featuring about six ranges of brick segmentally headed openings. The hop kiln, built against the north wall of the stables in the mid-19th century, is made of brick with a pyramidal slate roof and has a square plan. Its irregularly bonded brickwork includes one opening: a segmental headed door with a rectangular fanlight above it. At the apex of the kiln, there is a cowl with a vane to turn it into the wind, and the interior retains a slatted drying floor.
