Description
The Old Forge is a purpose-built smithy from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick with stone quoins and dressings, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building is one storey high, featuring a one and a half storey gabled cross-wing on the left side. The cross-wing has a depressed two-centred arch for the cart entry, above which is a horseshoe design made of blue brick that encloses a defaced inscription. The gable of the cross-wing contains a two-light casement window. The main range has two three-light casements with internal arrow-headed bars, and a central door that features a depressed two-centred head made of stone. This door is a stable door with strap hinges that have trefoil terminals and a large medieval-style door handle. Additionally, the forge stack is corbelled out from the left return front.
