Description

Aston Bank Cottage is a house dating back to the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. The house is timber-framed and constructed with painted brick infill, replacement brick walling and refacing, and a corrugated asbestos roof. It has two framed bays running east to west, and features a large external chimney built of sandstone rubble, with offsets, and a detached brick stack at the east gable end. The cottage is single-storey with an attic. The timber frame has three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners at the west gable end. It also contains collar and tie-beam trusses with two struts at the gable ends, although these have been partly altered. The south front has two ground floor windows, each with two lights and casements. A 20th-century gabled timber-framed porch and a ledged and battened door are located to the right of centre. There are attic lights in the gable ends. The interior of the house has not been inspected. A lean-to addition is situated at the rear.
