Description
Cornbrook House is a farmhouse dating from around 1600, with alterations and extensions made around 1800. It is timber-framed with painted brick infill and replacement walling, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building consists of two framed bays aligned east to west and features an external chimney with a brick stack on the north elevation. It has two storeys and a cellar.
The framing includes four rows of panels, with two above and two below the girding beam. There are long straight braces in the lower corners of both storeys. The west gable end jetties at the first floor and attic levels, each jetty supported by a moulded bressummer on shaped brackets. The trusses include collar and tie-beam designs; the west end truss has two collars and four struts to the lower collar and two to the upper collar, while the east end truss appears altered with four struts beneath a single collar and a V-strut in the apex.
On the main south elevation, there is a three-light casement window on the ground floor with plank weathering, a three-light casement, and a single-light casement on the first floor, along with 20th-century glazed double doors to the right. The interior features stop-chamfered main beams.
A brick addition from around 1800, also aligned east to west, encloses the external chimney. This addition has two storeys, two bays, and all openings have cambered heads. The current main entrance is located in the east gable end.
