Description

Ryall Hill is a 17th-century house designed in an L-plan, featuring a timber-frame structure with painted brick, and a significantly larger addition built around 1850 in red brick and stone on the north side. The 17th-century section has a plain tiled roof and a single ridge stack, with a cross-wing at the north end that displays exposed timbers on the west gable, an external stack on the east end wall, and a small dormer gable on the south side. The south range includes two dormers on the west front and one on the rear. This section has largely been recased in brick and features 19th-century or modern windows, including two 19th-century sash windows on the west gable end of the cross-wing.

The c1850 north range is a tall two-storey structure with cross-gabled roofs and an additional slightly lower gabled section to the east. It exhibits Tudor style details, with a plain tile roof that has four diagonal brick stacks on the south gable and three octagonal stacks on the principal east gable. The west, north, and both east gables are adorned with pierced traceried barge-boards. The sash windows are set in stone openings styled in the Tudor manner, with a two-window range on the north side featuring carved arms above in the gable, and a two-window range on the east front that includes a large projecting porch with a stepped brick gable and a moulded stone four-centred arch. The inner door has a similar stone surround and features panelled double doors. The west front boasts a large two-storey stone bay window with a three-light front and single light canted sides, topped with a parapet.
