Description

Old House is a house dating from around the 17th century, which was remodelled and extended in the early 19th century. It features a timber frame with red brick nogging, some of which is rendered, and has a stone rubble plinth. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, featuring deep bracketed eaves, while the north wing has a gabled end roof covered with clay plain tiles. There are red brick stacks on the lateral, axial, and gable ends.

The house has an L-shaped plan, with the eaves of the main range on the south and east raised during the early 19th-century remodelling, which also extended the house to the west. The exterior is two storeys with an attic, and the single-storey north wing also has an attic. The asymmetrical north front displays exposed timber framing on the ground floor, a large red brick lateral stack on the left, and a brick-faced wing on the right with exposed timber framing in the gable end. The central doorway features a 3-centred arch with a half-glazed door that has Gothick glazing bars, accompanied by a 20th-century open porch. The windows are 20th-century casements with leaded panes.

The south garden front is asymmetrical with a six-window range, various 20th-century casements, and a 3-centred arch half-glazed door. Timber framing is also exposed on the south front and the east end wall. Inside, there are moulded ceiling beams in the south and east range, and chamfered ceiling beams and joists in the north wing. The interior includes early 19th-century joinery, such as panelled doors, chimneypieces, and cupboards.
