Description
49 High Street is a house, probably dating from the early 16th century. It features a rendered plinth and large timber-framing on the ground floor with rendered infill. The first floor has close-studded timber-framing also with rendered infill. The roof is an old plain-tile hipped design with cross-gables on the cross-wings, and there is a brick ridge stack located to the right of the center.
The building is a double-ended hall house, two stories high with a two-bay central range and two-story cross-wings on both the left and right. There is a 20th-century ribbed door leading to a four-centred wooden doorway on the left, which has leaded lights. To the left of the center, there is a four-light wooden mullion window with leaded lights, and a large window with leaded glazing is situated to the right. On the first floor, there is a four-light wooden mullion window on the left with leaded lights, along with three-light casements in the center and right, both featuring leaded lights. The cross-gable on the right has a queen-post roof truss, while the cross-gable on the left has a double queen-post roof truss. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
