Description

Langley is a 17th-century house constructed with a timber frame and painted brick on a sandstone rubble plinth, topped with plain tile roofs and featuring three 19th-century spurred brick ridge stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan and is two storeys high with a three-window range.

The central window is a two-light design, flanked by three-light mullion windows that have metal lattice-glazed casements. The timber frame includes passing braces. The central entrance features a 19th-century part-glazed four-panel door set within a moulded architrave, which is sheltered by a late 19th or early 20th-century timber-framed gabled porch. This porch has curved brackets, braces, and a spike finial. On either side of the entrance are three-light mullion and transom windows with casements and lattice-glazing, along with a 20th-century encased bressumer and brackets.

To the left, there is an advanced three-bay wing that includes a mullion and transom window with a three-light casement above, also with lattice glazing. The painted brick gable features a tier of two four-light lattice-glazed casements beneath a restored moulded bressumer, and there is a 19th-century outshut to the left. The right side of the building has a tier of lattice-glazed casements, a simple wood hood, and a moulded bressumer.

At the rear, there are various lattice-glazed lights and a roof dormer with spike finials, along with a 20th-century studded plank door. The advanced gable wing at the rear has a two-light mullion glazed window with a spike finial. Inside, the house features early and mid-17th-century stop-chamfered ceiling frames and a stone fireplace with a chamfered oak lintel.
