Description

The Old Cottage is a house and adjoining outbuilding dating from the 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble, while the outbuilding features a weatherboarded timber frame. The cottage has a thatched roof with gabled ends, which is covered with corrugated iron sheets. There is a gable end stack with a brick shaft. The layout consists of a two-room plan with a central entrance; the left room is heated by the gable end stack, and there are outshuts across the back and at the left end. An integral stable is located at the right end, built of weatherboarded timber-frame.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front featuring two windows. The windows are very small casements, with a larger two-light casement on the ground floor left, next to a central doorway that has a plank door. There is a small single-storey outshut on the left end, which includes a plank door and a brick stack. The main roof extends over the weatherboarded stable on the right, which has a lean-to roof on the gable end. At the rear, the main roof is carried down as a catslide over the rear outshut.

Inside, the left room contains a large open fireplace. The partitions between the two ground-floor rooms have been removed, revealing exposed axial beams and joists.
