Description

There are eight gas street lamps in the churchyard of the Priory Church of St Mary and St Michael, dating from the mid to late 19th century. These lamps feature various designs, all with copper lanterns. Six of the lamps have cast-iron columns. Four were made by the Horsley Company of Tipton and have octagonal columns with rings, octagonal bases and caps, and double ladder rests. One lamp, produced by Dutton & Company of Worcester, has a barley-sugar twist column and is missing a ladder rest. Another lamp, made by Hamilton Woods & Company of Manchester, features a fluted octagonal column and slender ladder rests. Additionally, two gas lamps are mounted on sandstone piers opposite the north entrance to the priory, each supported by four curved iron brackets decorated with leaf motifs. All lamps are fitted with Sugg Windsor lanterns and are complete and operational.
