Description
There are two 19th century gas street lamps located in the churchyard of the Church of St Matthias. One lamp was made by Hardy and Padmore of Worcester.
The first lamp, located at the north grid reference, is made of cast iron and features a Windsor lantern supported by four scrolled brackets. It is set on a capital adorned with foliate relief, atop a short reeded column. This column has an ornamental ring with quatrefoils and is above a tall fluted base with ribbon binding, which rests on a square base with a rounded top. The ladder rest is reeded and has moulded finials. The rear of the plinth is marked with the founder's mark from Hardy and Padmore.
The second lamp, located at the east grid reference, is also made of cast iron and features a Windsor lantern on four scrolled brackets. It is mounted on a reeded column that has two stages of ornamental rings, including stiff-leaf relief, above a fluted section that sits on a moulded circular base. The ladder arms are reeded and include mouldings and finials.
