Description

The Church of St Matthias is a church constructed between 1844 and 1846 by Sir George Gilbert Scott, with subsequent additions and alterations carried out between 1880 and 1881 by F.W. Hunt. A tower was added in 1899. The church’s style is reminiscent of around 1300, featuring lancet windows with tracery. It is built of Malvern stone with ashlar dressings, and has a tile roof with triangular lights. The tower is crenellated with buttresses and paired belfry windows. Inside, the nave incorporates alternate octagonal and circular columns. Features include a painted screen and a former reredos in the aisle, along with a king post roof.
